Your current deodorants, shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwashes, cosmetics, and even your shaving creams/lotions may contain carcinogenic ingredients which have been found to be detrimental to your body's chemistry and biological systems.
Besides being inexpensive, there are other reasons that companies use these ingredients. Let me ask you the following question, "If you had two shampoos and one lathered up a lot while the other one did not lather up as much, which one would you say was a better shampoo?" Most people answer that the shampoo that lathers up alot is the better shampoo however the only thing that produces the thick, foamy lather in most of those products (and others) is an ingredient called either Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laurel Ether Sulphate (SLES) that may cause cataracts in adults and may not allow children's eyes to develop properly. When ordinary table salt (Sodium Chloride) is added to the mixture, it reacts with SLS/SLES to make the shampoo appear "THICKER and RICHER". The shampoo isn't more concentrated or better at cleaning your hair, it's just a chemical reaction which may carry with it, unwanted side effects.
Do you know what the largest organ of the body is? Most people don't know, have you thought about it? The largest organ of the body is the SKIN. That's right, and since your skin is your body's largest living, breathing organ, it makes sense that one of its functions is to take in oxygen in and release toxins. Many years ago it was thought that the skin was a perfect barrier and that we could put whatever we wanted to onto its surface without harming it. Nowadays we know differently, but almost all manufacturers continue to use inexpensive ingredients which will either suffocate the skin (by not allowing it to respire, and thereby locking in the toxins that your body is trying to expel) or will cause chemical reactions within the bottle resulting in the formation of carcinogens and nitrites which may then (due to their small molecular size) pass directly through the skin and into the blood stream where they will be carried to many different parts of your body! A good example of this is the "Nicotine Patch" which slowly allows penetration into the body, or even transdermal medicated creams which enter the blood system through the skin. An interesting analogy can be made using the cigarette industry. We know that cigarettes are "harmful" to our health but we can't get them off the market although they DO require warning labels today. Check that bottle of bubble-bath, toothpaste, or even mouthwash and you'll be shocked by the warnings that are printed right on the label
So how do you protect yourself? Simple, start reading the labels. How many people read food labels 25 years ago? Not many, right? Today, however, almost EVERYBODY reads food labels. We, as consumers, have a higher level of awareness today...regarding what to watch out for in food products. People are going to have to begin reading the ingredient labels on their personal-care products as well. How will you know what to look out for? Just check out our article "Uncovering Ingredient Myths" and the other special areas that you can find on the left-menu of this page.
